Event Details

Yakshagana is a traditional Indian theatre form that combines dance and music and incorporates the elements of costumes, makeup, and dialogue that results in a distinct form and style. It is usually performed around the coastal regions of Karnataka but this is the first time ever that Yakshagana is being brought to NorthWest Arkansas!

This performance will be a very special one as it was planned and shot during the pandemic in India and took lots of determination and hard work on the part of RVCF Music Coordinator, Vijayashri Vittal, her team, and the performers involved. Vijayashri and her team filmed this event with the special purpose of helping and supporting folk arts performers in areas where it is difficult for some of the artists to record and share their own work.

The artists of Yakshagana are from various villages in and around a place in Karnataka called Mangalore. These artists are from different melas (groups of Yakshagana) from the south style (Tenkuthittu Yakshagana Bayalata). Most of them are full time Yakshagana artists, while some of them also do agriculture on the side.

Yakshagana tickets are $9.99 per person; you may buy as many tickets as you want depending on the number of people watching with you. Tickets are discounted as this is the first show in NWA ever. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the artists themselves.
