Abhishikta DasKathak Instructor
Program Coordinator Abhishikta Das, Kathak instructor at KIFA, believes that a professional classical dancer must have a sense of rhythm, a feeling for music, and a creative ability to express herself through movement. She brings to RVCF all these qualities. With more than 20 years’ experience as a professional dancer, and an extensive knowledge of the theory and techniques of music and dance, Abhishikta completed her diploma in Kathak in 2011-12. She was awarded the Sangeet Visharad Final on having passed the prescribed examination conducted by the Prachen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Hindi literature from Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta University, and a master’s degree in Hindi literature from Rabindra Bharati University.
As well as her impressive academic credentials, Abhishikta has expertise in foot movements, facial expression, and hand movements, and is skilled in Abhinaya (storytelling), Chalan (gait or movements), Mudras, Taal, Chakkars (spinning circle), Tatkaar (produce from footwork), and Bols. She has wide performance experience on stage and in multiple television shows in India and has choreographed many productions. Abhishikta has participated in and won many dance competitions in India, performing classical, modern, folk, and rabindra dances. She brings out the best in her students by encouraging them to express stories, rhythm, and sound with their bodies. Whether teaching ensemble or solo performance, our new Kathak instructor is a welcome addition to the RVCF family! |
